Green Learning Farm Inaugurated at E7 Primary School to Promote Climate Literacy and Sustainability
Islamabad, Pakistan – September 27, 2024- The Green Learning Farm at E7 Primary School was inaugurated, marking a groundbreaking moment in sustainable education and climate literacy in Pakistan. Led by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MOFEPT), in collaboration with Knowledge Platform and Green Guardians, this initiative showcases the country’s commitment to integrating environmental awareness into education.
Secretary Education Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, who presided over the event as Guest of Honor, emphasized the government’s dedication to fostering climate literacy through hands-on learning. The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and the E7 community were instrumental in supporting this project, which aligns with Pakistan’s national objectives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly focusing on climate action and responsible consumption.
The E7 community, mobilized by Tariq Pirzada, provided strong local support, with hopes that this model of engagement spreads throughout Islamabad and beyond. Principal Samina Saeed of Islamabad Model School, E7, brought her own experience in organic farming to the project, inspiring both students and their families to adopt sustainable practices.
Knowledge Platform, as a key partner, provided innovative solutions for environmental education, while Green Guardians introduced experiential learning and sustainable farming methods, ensuring that the project had a tangible, lasting impact. Together, these partners enabled the school to become a hub for environmental awareness, where students and the broader community learned about drip irrigation, composting, and natural pest control.
Founder & CEO, Knowledge platform, Mehboob Mahmood said “This initiative is part of MOFEPT’s broader mission to promote climate literacy through practical, hands-on learning. By partnering with the federal government, the E7 community, and private sector entities like Knowledge Platform and Green Guardians, we’re unlocking new opportunities for sustainable education. Together, we’re equipping students with skills like water conservation and organic farming, fostering a lasting environmental impact across Pakistan.”
By educating over 1,000 students annually, the Green Learning Farm empowers youth and community members to take an active role in addressing Pakistan’s climate challenges. The initiative not only contributes to Pakistan’s commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals but also strengthens the country’s resilience to climate change.
Secretary Wani highlighted that the farm is nurturing future environmental leaders, securing food security, and building long-term sustainability. Practical workshops on water management, eco-conscious living, and waste recycling are already spreading the message of sustainability throughout the community. The emphasis on eco-friendly entrepreneurship equips students with valuable skills for the future, ensuring that environmental stewardship remains a priority for the next generation.
The collaboration between MOFEPT, Knowledge Platform, Green Guardians, and the E7 community demonstrates the power of partnerships in addressing critical environmental challenges. This initiative represents a milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward a greener, more sustainable future, with lessons that can be applied not just in schools but in homes and communities across the country.
